Whole Foods Stop Butchering Bunnies New York Day of Action
November 23, 2014 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Local animal and rabbit advocacy/rescue groups, vegan education groups and everyone who finds Whole Foods Market’s decision to expand their meatcases with a domestic breed of dead rabbits offensive, appalling and unnecessary, are coming together to make our collective voice heard and the public aware.
We are gathering on the south end of Union Square Park, directly across from Whole Foods, on Sunday, November 23, from 12PM-2PM, to get as much traffic flow as possible.
We gathered on August 17th to make our voices heard, as part of a nationwide effort. November 23rd is our way of keeping the momentum alive and providing an even stronger message, so that Whole Foods Market may reconsider their slaughter of 10-week old domestic, New Zealand rabbits they term as “fryers”. The New Zealand domestic rabbit breed can live up to 10+ years, when properly cared for. Further, the New Zealand rabbit often falls victim to horrific abuse through product testing. Whole Foods supports cruelty-free products, yet supports the death of the very same domestic breed. We feel their slaughter is an irresponsible, callous move done only to promote rabbit meat consumption and increase Whole Foods’ profits.
